GERMAN SCHOOL NEWS
Scholarship Fund and other Other Donations to the School
A scholarship fund for deserving High School students
has been established. Gifts by Lena Camperlengo (a former German School student
and mother of Ean Bancroft, a former High School Intern), by Mary and B.B. Adelson
(current German School students), and by Laura Potter Herndon (one of our first
students) have been received. The first recipient is Nikolas Ahlf, a Senior at
Leon High School who has taken several German courses at Tallahassee Community
College and FSU; he is now taking Conversational German at the German School.
Another recipient will be selected for the Fall Semester.
The
German School would like to say Vielen Dank to the
donors and encourage others who want to promote the learning of the German language
in this way. Und wir wuenschen Nicolas Alles Gute in seinen
Studien!
Lisa Dunning, a retired administrator at the German School
of Atlanta, has donated some beautiful children's books from her private collection
to our library. Vielen Dank, Lisa, unsere Kinder und deren Eltern werden Freude
an diesen Buechern haben!
Our Interns During the 2007-08 Academic Year Were
Hanna Renz, German Bundestag - U.S. Congress Exchange Program Student
at TCC who will return to Germany at the end of the semester;
Marcel Wendland, TCC Student from Berlin who will transfer to FSU
this Fall;
Jennifer Lyle, FSU Junior majoring in International Affairs and
Finance who intends to study in Germany for a year. She came from there with her
parents.
Carly Nasehi, FSU Junior and FSU German Club President; she is
majoring in International Affairs and Religion and minoring inGerman.
Jordan Kerz, FSU Senior who spent his High School senior year at
the Gymnasium in a town near Munich as an exchange student; he is majoring
in German and wants to teach German after graduation.
Wir danken euch fuer eure wertvolle Mithilfe und wuenschen euch schoene Sommertage!
Our Interns can receive course credit for participating in the work of the school, and they are eligible for receiving scholarship stipends from the German School. Their participation in teaching is valuable for the German School, and it enables them to test their teaching skills in an informal way.
Last Year's Interns
Our interns from last academic year earned fellowships or scholarships
to go to Germany, and some of them are still there:
Eric de Vries received a DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst)
Grant to study International Relations at the University of Bremen.
He will continue his studies at FSU in the fall.
Timothy Lorton graduated from FSU last April and received
a Fulbright Grant to teach English for a year at the Albert Einstein Gymnasium
in Sankt Augustin near Bonn. He will return to the United States in time
to start graduate studies in the fall.
Ean Bancroft , after graduating from Leon High School last
May, received a scholarship from CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange)
to attend classes for the Fall Semester at the Gymnasium in a small town near
Munich. This semester he is enrolled at the Largo campus of Schiller International
University before continuing his studies at one of its European campuses.
